What is the Dance Artist Summit?

The Dance Artist Summit is a 2.5 day event for people in Calgary who identify as dance artists.
This summit has been designed to provide you, the dance artist, with high quality speakers to nourish your body, mind, and heart, as well as also provide you with the tools you need to thrive.
This grassroots event is one of a kind as we are providing you with practical knowledge and tools that you can apply to your daily life as a dancer.
Each day will be different with a specific focus, we start the summit off with Friday featuring a movement lab, open jam and networking event. Then saturday and sunday are focused on in-depth sessions with top of the field speakers, as well as movement sessions to revitalize your practice and cross training approach. This summit was made by dance artists, for dance artists.

What do we receive?
When you purchase a ticket to the event you receive access to Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s sessions. You will also be entered into two giveaway contests on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to the event itself and the possibility of winning a prize, you will also receive a ‘Dancers Resource Package’ (incredible value), this will include local studio spaces and rental fees, theatres in Calgary with rates, physical health resources, a list of artist residencies in North America, a list of dance intensives abroad, detailed information about each speaker and how to contact them, and so much more.

I don’t identify as a “dance artist”, is this for me?
The term “dance artist” can encompass many individuals and their practice. If you are someone who invests time, money, and energy into dance this summit would benefit you. If you are a dance teacher, or someone who attends dance classes on weekdays and weekends after your full time job, this is for you. If you have been called to attend this event and you are inspired by the speakers and intention then we invite you to come! This is NOT an exclusive event, we desire to make this summit as accessible and inclusive to all dance artists in Calgary.

Is the venue physically accessible?
Unfortunately, no, it is not. There are stairs to get up to the building and then a staircase to get to the upstairs studio. If you are interested in attending and would like to zoom in, we would arrange this with you at a lower participation rate.

Do you provide payment plans?
Yes, we do! If the cost is financially out of your budget, we have a 2-part payment plan, pay half before March 3rd and the second half before April 15th. We will also provide receipts for you to submit to Cada/west for subsidy. You are able to send in the amount and possibly have 50% or more of your ticket covered. You can also submit the cost on your taxes under training as it applies to your career and field as a dance artist. Email us if you have more questions about that with the address listed below.

Are the washrooms gender neutral?
Yes, all washrooms are one-person sized and gender neutral.

Will there be scents in the space?
Because this is a public event, we can not guarantee a non-scented space, that being said we will encourage everyone to limit their use of fragrances to ensure our space is more accessible for scent sensitive people.
